ROLE OF THE PROFESSIONAL

Pattern makers are professionals responsible for clothing lines and their wearability; they give life to the designer's ideas and body to each piece of clothing. In other words, they transform and interpret ideas into a reality.

They develop patterns, preserving the fashion idea, guaranteeing the wearability of the garment and observing the economic constraints of the company. They supervise the realization of the prototype that precedes the start of the production phase. Once the collection has been realised, the Pattern maker has to be able to carry out the pattern grading and collaborate on the layout (prototype matched with an appropriate fabric).

To fulfil this role, Pattern Makers have to know how to work in a group, collaborating in close contact with the Production Manager and Designer.

Pattern Makers with knowledge of CAD find a vital and complementary tool in Information Technology; computer-assisted design and production allows them to quickly obtain satisfactory results in numerous operations such as paper patterns and layouts, pattern grading and cutting - with a large reduction in time and costs but with greater control over production processes and quality.
